Fees and burn addresses
A send pays a small network fee in XFER. Creating an asset can also burn XFER, which means the coins are sent to an address nobody can spend from. Launch listing has a separate fee that is not a consensus burn.
Step by step
1. Keep a little XFER in the wallet before you send a token. The network fee is paid in XFER even when the thing you send is a token or an NFT.
2. The network fee is 0.01 XFER per kB. It is paid to that block's lottery winner. It is not burned.
3. Creating a sub-asset (NAME/PROJECT) burns 100 XFER to XissueSubAssetXXXXXXXXXXXXXXcHkFpF. A Launch create uses this same burn. See Listing types.
4. Creating a unique (NAME#ITEM) burns 5 XFER to XissueUniqueAssetXXXXXXXXXXXagKZDZ.
5. Reissuing an asset burns 100 XFER to XreissueAssetXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXZNfDqa. Launch creates are not reissuable. A name can be at most 32 characters (at least 3). The full asset name can be at most 33 characters.
6. A holder can burn tokens on purpose by sending them to XgLobaLBurnXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXZTDEwo. Those tokens cannot move again. Claiming your free root name does not cost XFER.
7. Launch trades are a different fee from the network fee and the create burn. A fair trade pays 0.90% in total: 0.60% platform and 0.30% creator. Of the 0.60% platform fee, 0.20% goes to the listing's pool when it has stakers. If the pool has no stakers, the platform keeps the 0.20%. The creator keeps 0.30%. The trading fee share has been live since Oct 18, 2026 at 6:33 PM ET. Trades before that are not paid back into pools. With no stakers, the platform keeps the 0.20%. Pools and How Launch works.
Example
Example: A token send (example amounts)
Example amounts, not a quote: you send 10 of NAME/PROJECT to an address. The token leaves your wallet. The transaction is about 1 kB, so the network fee is 0.01 XFER and that 0.01 goes to the lottery winner of the block that confirms it. You still needed XFER in the wallet to pay that 0.01. The 10 tokens are not burned.
Common mistakes
Sending a token from a wallet that holds none of the coin. The fee is XFER, so the send cannot be signed.
Expecting the 100 XFER create burn to come back. Burn addresses cannot spend.
Confusing the 10 XFER Launch listing fee with the 100 XFER create burn. Listing an asset you already issued is the 10 XFER fee. Creating a new sub-asset is the 100 XFER burn.
Putting a burn address in as the place you want to receive coins. Anything sent there is gone.
FAQ
- Who receives the network fee?
- The lottery winner for that block. The lottery.
- Do fees leave circulation?
- Network fees paid to a winner stay in circulation. XFER sent to a burn address does not. Supply reads both from the explorer.
- Is the root name a burn?
- No. Claiming the one name from your X handle does not cost XFER. Children under that name do.
- Where does the Launch platform fee go?
- A fair trade pays 0.90% in total: 0.60% platform and 0.30% creator. A buy can pay the platform fee to the protocol fee address instead of the treasury. Sells already pay that fee address. With no stakers, the platform keeps the 0.20%.
