How it works

Assets 101

An asset is a named thing on the chain that you can hold and send. XFER is the coin. Everything else, like tokens, NFTs and records for real items, is an asset.

The kinds of assets

Root name NAME
Your main name. You get one free from your X handle when you sign in with X. It cannot be reissued.
Admin token NAME!
Comes with every root. Whoever holds it can make assets under that name. Keep it safe.
Sub-asset NAME/PROJECT
A token under your name. You pick the amount and decimals. Costs 100 XFER to create.
Unique (NFT) NAME#ITEM
Exactly one. Cannot be split. Costs 5 XFER to create.

Name rules

Letters A to Z, numbers, dot and underscore. A root is 3 to 32 characters. The full name, including the root, can be up to 33 characters.

Your root is your handle in capitals. XFER and XCOIN are reserved.

You cannot create a second root. New names always go under the one you have, as NAME/… or NAME#….

Amount, units, reissuable

Amount is how many exist. Units is decimal places, 0 to 8. Use 0 for whole items like tickets, 8 for something that should split finely.

Reissuable means the holder of the admin token can make more later, for 100 XFER each time. Off fixes the supply forever. Assets made in the web wallet and on Launch are not reissuable.

The XFER spent to create an asset is burned: sent to an address nobody can spend from.

Pictures and description files

An asset can point to a file on IPFS: a picture or a small description file with a name, text, image, link and traits. The chain stores a short id that starts with Qm. The explorer and wallets show the file.

Build one on Create assets. Never put the 12 words, a password or a private key in that file.

NFTs

An NFT is a unique asset: NAME#ITEM. There is exactly one. It moves like any other asset, to an address or an @handle.

Example: An art series

ALICE#SUNSET_01, ALICE#SUNSET_02 and so on, each with its own picture file. Each costs 5 XFER to create.

Real-world assets (RWA)

An RWA token is an asset that stands for something off the chain: a painting, a piece of equipment, a document, a batch of products. The description file says what it is and who issued it.

The token is a record. On its own it does not give anyone legal ownership of the real item. Any real-world rights come from agreements and laws outside the chain.

Example: A receipt for equipment

A workshop makes SHOPCO#LATHE_7 with a photo and serial number in the file. Whoever holds the token can show they hold the record. The rights that come with it are whatever the workshop and the holder agree in writing.

More examples

Example: Community points

BOBSCAFE/POINTS, units 0, reissuable, so the café can issue more as people visit. Reissuable assets are made in the desktop app.

Example: Event tickets

BANDNAME/TOUR26, amount 500, units 0, reissuable off. 500 tickets, no more can be made.

Example: A fixed-supply token

MYHANDLE/COIN, amount 1,000,000, units 8, reissuable off.

Before you make shares or funding tokens

Why this matters

A token that stands for part of a company, a share of income, or a claim on money can fall under securities or other laws, depending on where you and the buyers live.

The wiki explains how the software works. It is not legal, tax, securities or financial advice. Rules differ by country and change over time. Nothing here is a promise that XFER or any token will have value. Terms of Use.
